Michael O’Brian has over 22 years in the Fire Services with a career touching many aspects of our profession.

Starting out as a paid on call firefighter, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant with the Northville Township Fire Department and then promoted to a full-time firefighter followed quickly to the rank of Fire Marshal.

Through the years he as served as a firefighter/paramedic with the Dearborn Heights Fire Department and a Staff Lieutenant with the Farmington Hills Fire Department. He has served as the Fire Chief of the Brighton Area Fire Authority for over six years and previously as the Deputy Fire Chief and Fire Marshal.

His roles go far beyond that of a firefighter.  He has been actively engaged in the leadership of the Fire and Life Safety Section, an appointee of the IAFC to multiple code development committees with the International Code Council and National Fire Protection Association as well as an active presenter at Fire Rescue International and many company officer leadership classes across the United States.

Chief O’Brian is passionate about fire service fitness and health. This passion grows from the desire to set the example for his daughters and his department on a daily basis.  His transformation has been a key into his leadership abilities and desire for a cultural change in the fire service.
